Nate Starts School!
I didn’t plan this well. One week from when we brought Jason home from the hospital, I put Nate on the bus for his first day at school. Or….we were supposed to. The saving grace in all this was that Jon was still home.
This is us waiting for the bus. The crown is so the bus driver knows Nate’s new to this whole school thing and so his teacher can find him fast when he gets off the bus at the other end.
We waited….and waited. And then waited some more. And then we watched the bus drive past us. We thought hmmm, maybe the bus will come back past. It didn’t. We hung out at the end of the driveway and discussed how we were going to avoid a meltdown because we had spent the better part of a week talking this whole bus thing up.
I think Jason helped. Nathan was happy to have his mom, dad and baby brother to drive him into school for the first day. Things got sorted out and Nate came home on the bus. And I was so distracted with the fact that the bus didn’t pick him up that I didn’t shed a tear. I came close the following Monday when I put him on the bus myself and he waved to me from his seat. But I held it together.
Nate LOVES school. He is learning so much, so fast. Somethings not so great, since he comes out with MAJOR attitude now and again. But overall, its fantastic. It’s a long day for him and at least once a week I have to get on the bus and carry him off because he’s fallen asleep. It’s not easy picking up almost forty pounds of arms and legs and gangly kindergartener.
