Welcome to the World, Baby Jason!

Jason Arthur Heins arrived on August 29th at 10:44 in the morning. He weighed 10 pounds, 5 ounces. We have no idea how long he was since they didn’t tell us a measurement until he went into Special Care (more on that in a second). Colleen tells me I told her he was 19 inches. That sounds about right.

So everything went pretty normally, all things considered. Jason had to be different from his brothers and decided that he wasn’t coming out and my labor stalled at 8 cms. That was fun. I got the epidural this time around and we waited him out. Labor wasn’t any longer than Nathan or Evan’s but it was definitely more difficult and a lot more painful. I’ll spare you the bulk of the gory details. Doesn’t matter anyway, since I’ve pretty well forgotten what I went through to get him here.

We had a quiet first night, Jon went home to spend time with Nate and Evan and Jason and I had a quad room to ourselves. The next night we were in a private room, anticipating being released in the morning. Again, Jason had other plans. He decided to freak the nurse out at three am when she was taking some blood for some tests. It was precautionary and Jon and I had seen the twitching before when Evan was first born…but she wanted to be sure. Since we were coming up on a long weekend, we wanted her to be sure too. So off to Special Care with our third-born.

I think he enjoyed his time there:

They kept us an extra ten hours and we were home by the Friday night. Everyone settled in just fine and the older two boys took it all in stride. I couldn’t ask for more from them. They love their youngest brother.

I’m in a house surrounded by boys, which is just fine by me. It’s noisy, there are many many trucks and I’m pretty sure i could easily referee professional sports at this point. But my family is complete and I’m looking forward to watching my boys grow up.
